Keynsham has been a Fairtrade Town since February 2005. In 2004, a Fairtrade Group was formed to promote the concept of Fairtrade, raise the awareness of the Fairtrade mark
and achieve and maintain Fairtrade Town status.
The Group has a number of aims, which include:
- encouraging more shops & cafes to sell Fairtrade products
- persuading local workplaces to use Fairtrade products
- thinking of new ways to raise awareness about Fairtrade – events, competitions…
During Fairtrade Fortnight 2010, a new ‘Fair and Local Directory’ was launched. The directory, published by local company, Faragher Jones and supported by Bath & North East Somerest Council, supports Fairtrade and local producers by encouraging people to make ethical choices when shopping. Keynsham Fairtrade Steering Group meets every couple of months to share information and plan events and action.
If you are passionate about making a difference and tackling poverty, the Group would like to hear from you. They are looking for people to contact businesses and shops, volunteers to staff publicity stalls, and people to bring new ideas!!
If you would like to get involved, or find out more, please contact: Rachel Ward, Secretary of Keynsham Fairtrade Group at the Keynsham Town Council offices 0117 9868683 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Fairtrade Campaign in Keynsham is supported by Keynsham Town Council and Bath & North East Somerset Council. The Group also works with Keynsham Music Festival Association to encourage and promote Fairtrade at the Festival.
